Alum honored by national group
Journalism alum Fernando Diaz, 29, who works for The Chicago Reporter, was named the "Emerging Journalist of the Year'' by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Diaz was honored at the NAHJ's 23rd annual Noche de Triunfos Journalism Gala on September 12 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Diaz graduated from Columbia in 2004, and interned for the Chicago Reporter while working on his degree. After graduating, he became a reporter for the Arlington Heights Daily Herald, worked at The Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, New York, then returned to Chicago to join the Reporter again in 2007.
According to a story in The Chicago Reporter about Diaz' award, he was selected because of his interest in merging various media platforms, including television and Internet.
CCC Students Win National IRE Award Investigative journalists from around the world gathered in Miami in June to learn new techniques and honor the best work of 2007. | Anchoring, Reporting in 3rd Largest Market |
| Metro Minutes is one of several hands-on productions available to advanced students, who have the chance to report on major stories in the third largest media market in the United States. These opportunities, in class and out, often lead to professional jobs immediately following graduation. For example, Damon Maloney, co-anchor in this clip, is now a reporter at KHBS-TV. Click here to see a Metro Minutes show, produced in a once-weekly four-hour course. |
