Exchange Portfolio
Mind the Gap: The Art and Science of Producing Prints on a Flattened Earth
Taking cues from the conference theme, Global Implications, this portfolio looks to address printmaking as an instrument of mass dissemination, and perpetuator of culture. Participants should consider print's 'democratic voice' and how techniques and processes have changed the way we do business and interact with our environments. What are the conceptual confines, expressions, and connotations of traditional print processes? Are print innovations progress or convenience? How will printmedia evolve and endure through the global flattening we have all been thrust into? Participants should interpret the theme openly and as they see fit.
Specifications: Paper size is 11"x14". Editions should consist of twelve impressions numbered 01/12 to 12/12, using any archival printmaking process. All prints MUST be slip sheeted with the same size archival tissue or glassine. No prints may be thicker than 1/8 of an inch. Any archival editionable technique may be used including, but not limited to: traditional processes, digital, and photography. Editions that do not conform to these guidelines may be excluded at the discretion of the coordinator.
Ten of the prints will be redistributed to other participants in a random selection process. The remaining two prints from each edition will be retained as a complete set for the Southern Graphics Council Archives at the University of Mississippi, and a second complete set will reside with the Anchor Graphics @ Columbia College Chicago archives. If you plan to participate in the portfolio you must sign up during online registration. There is a $12 fee for participation. If you are not attending the conference you may not participate in the exchange portfolio. Participants will receive a portfolio ticket which will be needed to claim their collated portfolio.
Any questions may be directed towards the portfolio coordinator, Matthew DiClemente at m.diclemente@mac.com
