Satisfaction Town
Coordinator: John Hitchcock
Location: Columbia College, Conaway Center, 1104 South Wabash Ave, ground floor
Date: Friday, March 27
Time: 5 - 8 pm
Satisfaction Town consists of the new breed of printmakers, artists, musicians, performers, poets, activists, and makers. We plan to create an interactive collaborative print environment with a parade of dimensional and flat prints. Traditionally in museum and gallery settings, art is put on a pedestal or framed under glass, removing it from the audience. Our approach for Satisfaction Town will be interactive. We will bring the art directly to the viewer, to distance the work from this hierarchical standard. We will create an active live print space with collaborative teams handing off prints to each other and to audience members.

Reading: A Selection of Artists' Books
Coordinators: Brandon Graham and Jill Lanza
Location: Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 37 South Wabash Ave, suite 508
Date: Saturday, March 28
Time: 10 am - 5 pm with a reading at the beginning of each hour
Link:http://digital-libraries.saic.edu/jfabc
Artist's books are greater than the sum of their parts: they are unique - at once a book, an art object, a texture, a sculpture. They are not just read; they are experienced, and there is nothing less enjoyable than being separated from a book you want to read by a plexiglass box and getting only a notion of what the book experience in total would be. Without the images, typography, design, and construction, the words read aloud are only a small part of experiencing this book work. One solution is artists' books presented by the artists themselves in an effort to give a book experience through various performance strategies. Please join us for a reading of artists' books, presented by the artists who made them, using visual and audio aids to communicate to the audience a more complete encounter with their work.
Directions
From the Hilton, walk north on Michigan Avenue to Monroe Street (about six blocks). Walk west on Monroe Street to Wabash Avenue (one block). Walk north on Wabash Avenue to 37 (less than one block).
