Sponsors Eight years ago, Manifest began as Columbia College Chicago's end of the year celebration, featuring graduating student work. Since then, the festival has grown to become one of the largest cultural festivals in the South Loop. In addition to highlighting visual and performing work from the college, Manifest offers performance, live readings, screenings, portfolio reviews, mainstream musical acts, campus-wide exhibition tours, live art happenings, and a mass arts procession, Spectacle Fortuna. By 2005, Manifest had grown so rapidly that the college Expanded the daylong event into a festival with two outside soundstages, student activities, and sponsorship booths. In addition, the daylong arts festival was permanently rescheduled to overlap with graduation and the Alumni Reunion weekend, two very exciting and well-attended events at Columbia. Manifest attracts a vast audience of over 30,000 attendees composed of students, faculty and staff, parents, friends, alumni, patrons, donors, industry professionals, South Loop residents, and the Chicago arts community. The festival is open and free to the public, and welcomes individuals from neighboring colleges and universities. Each year's offerings exceed the last - this year's festival features ongoing multimedia events, high-caliber musical performances, exhibitions from emerging artists, departmental showcases of student accomplishments, and a collective celebration. Don't miss Manifest 2009, coming this spring, on Friday, May 15. For more information about how you can support the festival, please contact us at manifest@colum.edu. Mark Kelly |
