Engaging Bystanders in Violence Prevention

Bystanders are individuals who witness situations that could lead to violence and have the opportunity to act. The choices are to do nothing, contribute to the negative behavior, or offer support to the target. This workshop will focus on building individual and community responsibility for violence prevention through educating bystanders and empowering them to act safely. Participants will learn effective strategies to engage their consituents as potential interveners rather that potential perpetrators or victims

Teen Dating Violence Prevention

This workshop provides evidence based information, tools and resources in the area of healthy relationships and teen dating violence to compliment youth-oriented programming. Participants will learn to recognize teen dating violence and its underlying dynamics, address the unique risk and protective factors of relationship violence in adolescence and integrate tools and hands-on activities into their programming.

Conflict Resolution and Peacemaking

This workshop is designed for people who work in schools, youth serving organizations and community settings. We will discuss the tenets of conflict resolution, its appropriate application, the role of the peacemaker, and how to transition from handling individual inccidents to developing a culture of peace. Participants will learn to use tools and activities and develop a common language around conflict and peace.

NOVEMBER
Foundations for Success in Youth Violence Prevention
November 9 -13, 2009 (9:00 - 12:30)
Illinois Center for Violence Prevention (ICVP); Chicago, IL
ICVP is very excited to offer this multi-session program which will help service providers integrate current best practices and research into their work through a comprehensive series of workshops and individualized coaching. Youth and social serving organizations will have the opportunity to develop, evaluate and/or improve programs in the prevention of Youth Violence. In addition to in-depth evidence based information about the commission and prevention of several types of youth violence, participants will receive hands on skill development in integrating needs assessments, positive youth development, evidence based practices, and program evaluation into their programming.
