The students will receive extensive hands-on exposure to the basic requirements of starting a new arts business. Some of the material includes: the importance of entrepreneurship in the arts to the cultural communities, the need for as well as the logic and construction of a business plan, the research needed for the business plan, personal start-up and projected operating budgets, cash flow, and financing needs and sources. By the end of the workshop, each student will have produced a preliminary business plan. While this plan will not be complete, it will give the student a strong background to use to produce full plans later either at Columbia College or in their working life.
