Planning and Policy Making

28-6120

As a capstone course, this class brings together the wide spectrum of topics covered in the graduate AEMM Core Requirements courses. The center of attention is the total enterprise--the industry and competitive environment in which a company operates, its long-term direction and strategy, its resources and competitive capabilities, and its prospects for success. The course focuses on the roles of the board, chief executive officer and other senior managers in strategic planning, policy-making and management of a company. Case studies in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors give special attention to real-world situations of small and large businesses in the arts, entertainment and media fields. In the analysis of cases, students are called upon to probe and evaluate all aspects of a company's standing in the marketplace and its ability to compete with rivals, to learn to tell the difference between winning and mediocre stategies, and to become more skilled in spotting ways to improve a company's strategy or its implementation.

Course descriptions are stored in OASIS and are maintained by the Associate Dean for each School.
