Course Description: Theory & Criticism: Modern Architecture and Design

Designed as a seminar, this course is interactive and will consist of discussion, critical and analytical writing, site visits, related fieldtrips, and in-class exercises such as sketching, diagramming, and drawing. This course explores the history and theory of the 20th Century's Modern Movement in architecture. It touches on aspects of interiors, decorative arts, landscape architecture, and urban design. The course examines the rise of modern architecture, from the advent of pre-fabricated industrial products in structural engineering, through the Bauhaus, Internatioan Movement, and late Modernism.
