COLUMBIA COLLEGE
FACULTY ORGANIZATION (CCFO)
Report to the College Council
November 2nd, 2007
Since the last meeting of the College Council, CCFO has made public the results of its survey of full-time faculty [available at http://www2.colum.edu/faculty/CCFO/]. Issues noted as important are: increasing the base salary percentage raise; additional space/facilities in departments; challenges brought about by the growth of the college; more full-time faculty; recruitment and retention of minority students; transparent evaluation of deans and senior academic administration and additional staff support in the academic departments.
CCFO, in collaboration with the CTE, facilitated two highly successful tenure workshops on October 9th and 17th. A tenure workshop session for year one faculty will be held on Thursday, November 29th.
We had a meeting with the Provost/Senior Vice-President and Vice-President for Academic Affairs on Tuesday, October 16th. Topics covered at this meeting included: administration representation on College Council committees; rank/promotion; tenure review; recent events in the Art & Design Department; the responsibilities of the Provost/Senior Vice-President and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs; preparations for NCA; evaluation of teaching and the aforementioned CCFO survey results.
On Tuesday, November 6th, CCFO and the CTE will host a panel presentation and discussion on Academic Freedom. The Faculty Liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee will make a presentation to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees next Friday. We hope to discuss, with members of the Board of Trustees, the results of the CCFO survey and the role of faculty in academic initiatives at that time.
