Chicago Premiere

Margaret Jenkins Dance Company

September 27, 28 & 29 * 8pm

The Dance Center opens its 2007–2008 season with a piece by Margaret Jenkins, known for her ongoing commitment to innovation. A Slipping Glimpse, developed in India and the United States, features dancers from both the renowned Tanusree Shankar Dance Company of Calcutta and the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company of San Francisco. With music composed and performed live by the Paul Dresher Ensemble, this one-of-a-kind experience explores the intersection of private and public realms at a divisive and artistically challenging time in history. The Dance Center will be transformed into a theatre-in-the round, with platforms ranging in height placed in and around the audience. Jenkins’ masterful choreography can be witnessed indoors and outdoors as Daniel Webster Park* becomes a stage for the thought-provoking and physically rigorous outdoor prologue.
