This is a harmony course with an emphasis on practical application. Material includes major and minor keys, the modes, inversions, voicing, harmonizing a melody, harmonic analysis, and extensive drill in recognizing and replicating triads and seventh chords. Students write chord progressions in four voices using diatonic and nondiatonic chords showing thorough voice-leading principles; effectively harmonize a melody with cadences, nonchord tones, root movements, and harmonic rhythm; and hear and identify harmonic progressions through dictation.
Course descriptions are stored in OASIS and are maintained by the Associate Dean for each School.
