Course Description: Silent Cinema

Silent Cinema

This course will examine the very origin of cinema from early use of photography, shadow plays, late 19th century experiments to the work of Muybridge and then to Edison, through the Nickelodean era to the studio era and to the onset of the so-called talkies. The student will also learn the origins and evolution of the studio stystem, distribution, and film finance.
