Festival of the Book III - Book Arts Fair

The Center for Book and Paper Art's 3rd Festival of the Book will be held this year as a part of the Action/Interaction: Book/Arts Conference. The Book Fair will begin Friday evening with a special Collector's Preview Evening coordinated and hosted by Bill Drendel. The Fair continues Saturday and Sunday afternoons during the conference and also coincides with Chicago's Printer's Row Book Fair, which occurs nearby. The Fair will be held in the 1st floor Conaway Center, downstairs from the Center for Book and Paper Arts, which is a large, glass-walled space which providing a street presence for the Fair to attract additional attendees who are in the area for Printer's Row.

We consider the Book Arts Fair to be a complement to the invitational exhibition - an additional venue for conference attendees to reflect on the nature of the work being produced by book artists today. The Book Fair is not only an opportunity to sell works, but also provides an alternative, informal, interactive opportunity for individual artists and vendors to showcase what they are doing.

The Action/Interaction: Book/Arts Exhibition

The Action/Interaction: Book/Arts Exhibition is an invitational, juried exhibition which will showcase exemplary work from book arts programs and centers across the country and oversees in order to provide a survey of the current activity in the field and to highlight the different characteristics, missions, and philosophies of various programs and centers. The exhibition will be held in two galleries, The Center for Book and Paper Arts Gallery and downstairs in the Glass Curtain Gallery, and will be documented in a catalog to be published in 2008. An underlying philosophy of the exhibition is the importance of providing access to the works being exhibited and special reading stands have been commissioned to provide access to the works.
