Announcing
the MY KIND OF series
George F. Thompson, series founder
and director
The MY KIND OF
series, to be published by the Center for American Places
at Columbia College Chicago, will officially be launched
in the spring of 2009 in Las Vegas, with additional
volumes to appear on a regular basis. The University
of Chicago Press, the Center’s longtime publishing
partner, will market and distribute the series. Each
book in the series will focus on a specific place or
topic that has captivated an author’s attention
for years, if not a lifetime. And the authors are encouraged
to integrate a personal narrative into their perspective,
offering a unique way to explore and understand the
spaces and places that surround us, nearby and worldwide.
The first releases include:
My
Kind of Geography (by Terry G. Jordan-Bychkov)
My Kind of Midwest
(by John A. Jakle)
My Kind of Door County
(by John Fraser Hart)
My Kind of Time
(by Denis Wood)
My Kind of Transit
(by Darrin Nordahl)
Future titles include
MY KIND OF art colony; boatyard; cemetery;
countryside; creationism; design; dude ranching; DVD;
family farm; garden; Himalayas; historic preservation;
highway; landscape; ranching; suburb; summer camp; synagogue;
telecommunity; tour; transit; and valley; among others.
Books will appear initially
in hardcover editions. They will retail for $27.50 each,
thus appealing to the student and the common reader.
Libraries, bookstores, and individual book buyers may
subscribe to the series and receive the first five titles
for only $100, a savings of $37.50!
