Pass it On! will be an exhibition on display at Columbia College Chicago's A+D Gallery, starting March 2007. The show will explore the breadth and variety of DIY projects in contemporary culture including such areas as citizen journalism, amateur science, art activism, hacking technology, grassroots organizing, and independent media production in music film and print. The show will highlight works of DIY that aim to empower, educate, and explain "how-to". We are currently looking for instruction set from artists, organizers, activists, and creators of all kinds for inclusion in the show. Write or create a set of “how to” instructions describing steps someone else could take to do what you do or make what you make. The instructions can be as broad (“How to start a Successful Collective”) as or specific (“How to turn your toaster into a megaphone”) as you wish. The instructions need not be technical but instead can be a reflection of your own beliefs and mission statement. We welcome instructions accompanied by visuals but text submissions are also appreciated and will be visualized by students from the Columbia College graphic design department. Help us pass on the information about the projects that you believe in! Please send instructions to Doro Boehme aboehme@saic.edu, Kevin Henry khenry@colum.edu, or Lindsay Bosch lbosch@saic.edu by November 30, 2006. Any material submission can be sent to: Kevin Henry, IDSA Feel free to contact any one of the DIY Curators with questions. |
