Sartorial Flux reflects on the changing nature of clothing and fashion in light of modern society’s increasingly nomadic and technologically ubiquitous lifestyle. This exhibition investigates the field of wearables – from the imaginative to the practical – through the presentation of art projects plumbing the social, cultural, and technological possibilities for the design of a networked and responsive fashion adapted to our modern actuality. Sartorial Flux features recent works investigated by international artists approaching wearables from fields of design, computation, interactive textiles and social networking. |

HIV/AIDS has had a greater impact on the continent of Africa than anywhere else on earth. African posters concerned with HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment provide a unique opportunity to examine how the disease is presented to the African public and to understand the attitudes and issues that shape strategies for dealing with it. This exhibition will explore the active role of African visual culture in confronting the AIDS crisis. Pandemic in Print is presented in conjunction with Critical Encounters, an ongoing series of year-long college-wide examinations of important social issues that challenge and complicate the thinking of all members of the Columbia College Chicago community. The focus of Critical Encounters for 2006-2007 is HIV/AIDS. |

This exhibition focuses on the different aspects inherent in most successful DIY projects, be they of historical, political, or artistic importance. Pass It On examines the remarkable breadth of DIY in today’s culture and covers such diverse areas of activity as self-publishing, personal journalism, podcasting, amateur science, architecture and design, and independent filmmaking. The show aims at leading visitors into active exploration of, and participation in, a variety of DIY projects that are exemplary and empowering, and will discuss work that readily gives up any claim of proprietary and lasting authorship. In association with the physical installation, this event includes a web project, accompanying documentation, lectures and workshops within the gallery space. Visit the Pass It On pages for information about how this exhibition is evolving. |
