This exhibition, the third in an ongoing series that surveys the work of local artists, features the paintings and drawings of John Phillips' from 1979 to the present. Committed to abstraction, Phillips uses primarily oil and wax to create rich, saturated work that is quirky and humorous, yet compositionally and aesthetically controlled. Long a force on the Chicago art scene, Phillips currently exhibits at Bodybuilder and Sportsman Gallery. | ||

Through her appropriation and recasting of stereotypes, Ayanah Moor seeks to contribute, generate, and enrich the discourse surrounding issues of gender, race and identity. Drawing from the popularity of hip-hop culture, Moor brings audiences to consider the shifting social and economic implications associated with this form of African American vernacular culture. Like the expression that inspires her work, her prints and installations are sharp, challenging, and accessible. |

| This exhibition features Plagens' large-scale oil and acrylic paintings and mixed media compositions from the past 30 years. The work demonstrates the Newsweek art critic's enduring adherence to abstraction, displaying his sometimes subtle, sometimes brash mastery of color and composition. According to Holo, Plagens' ongoing commitment to his own evolving modernist language has made possible a cohesive but varied feast for the eyes. | ![]() |
